With the support of the High School Initiative at Essex County College and the NACME and NSF organizations, ECC is proud to offer two unique programs for high school students for the upcoming Summer II Session and for the Fall semester.  The NACME scholarship program allows students interested in engineering to take calculus and engineering courses.  The NSF scholarship program allows students interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and who plan on attending ECC when they graduate to take math and/or engineering courses.  In both programs, students must qualify by passing a math placement exam.

The deadline to apply for these programs (and to schedule a placement exam) is Friday June 5, 2009.

EXPIRED: CREATE Summer Research Program at Georgia Tech

CREATE (Collaborative Research Experiences in Advanced Technology and Engineering) is a summer research program for sophomores, juniors and seniors in engineering and engineering related disciplines. CREATE provides stipends ($4,000), lodging, and travel allowances ($500), allowing students to spend 10 weeks at the Georgia Tech campus in Savannah. Through hands on research and interaction with faculty and graduate students, students become integral members of their research groups, at the same time learning about the research of fellow participants.

The CREATE summer research program generally begins in early June and ends in early August. In addition to becoming active members of their research groups, students attend weekly seminars, tour local engineering facilities, and participate in professional development activities.

Students are housed in apartment style housing at nearby Armstrong Atlantic State University, conveniently located near a mall, two movie theaters, and a variety of restaurants. Transportation to/from Armstrong to the GT Savannah campus can be provided, although if students can arrange carpools as a group, CREATE will supplement the subsistence allowance for all students.

The application deadline is April 15, 2009. After April 15, CREATE will begin making offers, but will continue accept applications.  As the application deadline approaches, we will notify applicants of the completeness of their applications.  To be eligible, must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or its possessions.  Students from non-research institutions (like Essex County College) are especially encouraged to apply.
