Faculty Mentoring

Faculty Mentors can serve as sources of invaluable support for students.  A Faculty Mentor can:

  • Meet one-on-one with students and develop individual academic plans for each targeted student in order to prepare them at the start of their academic journey

  • Provide accurate information on courses, programs, and educational opportunities as well as campus resources for which students are eligible

  • Help students enroll in those classes required to complete their major course of study

  • Offer academic assistance to students seeking remedial help or guidance in their science, technology, engineering, and math courses

  • Facilitate students' personal development by offering them assistance, as an academic adviser and as a mentor who takes into account their financial circumstances and personal experiences

  • Ensure that students' courses of study fit their individual goals, strengths, and interests

  • Enable students to overcome personal or situational problems that may thwart their persistence and perseverance in the community college setting
